From Group Practice to Grass Roots: Why Did I Sell My Practice?

In the ever-evolving landscape of mental health care, finding the right balance between professional fulfillment and patient well-being can be a delicate dance. For me, the decision to sell my mental health business was not just a strategic move; it was a profound personal choice that will allow me to rediscover peace and refocus on providing whole-person psychiatry. As I embark on this transformative journey, I am excited to announce that I sold my large practice and am revamping my side practice PsychCare Anywhere. Allow me to introduce New Vistas for Women Integrative Psychiatry, a rebranded approach to mental health care that integrates tailored treatment plans, functional medicine, coaching, and therapy.

So, why would I sell a practice that has 7 providers, provides great care, and will continue to grow over the years?

The Decision to Sell: A Quest for Balance

The decision to sell my mental health business was rooted in a desire for balance and personal fulfillment. The world of private practice often demands a delicate equilibrium between administrative responsibilities and patient care….heavy on the administrative responsibility. While the business side of psychiatry is essential for sustainability, it became increasingly apparent that my passion for providing whole-person care was taking a backseat to the demands of managing a business. My family and original vision were lost under paperwork, daily tasks, and my desire to work less and LIVE more.

Selling the business was not about stepping away from my commitment to mental health; rather, it was a strategic move to create space for what truly matters – my family and my ability to individualize mental health care for my clients. By entrusting the business to capable hands, I will again find the freedom to refocus on the core principles that led me to psychiatry in the first place: compassionate, holistic care that addresses the unique needs of each individual.

Rebranding to New Vistas for Women Integrative Psychiatry

The rebranding of my side practice that I’ve maintained over recent years, PsychCare Anywhere, to New Vistas for Women Integrative Psychiatry signifies not just a change in name but a shift in philosophy. This new identity reflects a commitment to providing a comprehensive, integrative approach to mental health care, with a focus on women's unique needs. I believe in being really good at a few things instead of being “just good” at countless things. The practice I sold provided care to clients of all backgrounds and for that I am very proud. However, insurance plans severely limit the quality of care that I want to be able to provide. For that, I am shifting my care BACK to cash-pay where I can offer quality over quantity.

Functional Medicine: Uncovering Root Causes

At New Vistas, we embrace the principles of functional medicine, seeking to identify and address the root causes of mental health concerns. This approach recognizes the interconnectedness of various bodily systems, exploring factors such as nutrition, hormonal balance, and gut health that can profoundly impact mental well-being. By delving into the root causes, we aim to provide more sustainable, long-term solutions for our patients.

Coaching for Empowerment:

In addition to traditional therapeutic approaches, New Vistas offers coaching as a tool for empowerment. Our coaching services are designed to help individuals set and achieve meaningful goals, navigate life transitions, and develop skills to manage stress and enhance resilience. This collaborative process empowers patients to take an active role in their well-being and fosters a sense of control over their mental health journey. My specialties are substance use disorder and binge eating disorder in women as well as neurodivergence. I will continue to offer comprehensive care to those seeking ADHD and ASD evals as not many providers understand the unique presentations in women.

Therapy: A Safe Space for Healing

I will continue to offer therapy services that are IFS, CBT, and DBT-informed. My clients enjoy the option of receiving their med management and therapy services in the same place.

Charting a Course for Transformative Mental Health Care

The journey from selling my psychiatry business to establishing New Vistas for Women Integrative Psychiatry has been a profound and intentional transition. It represents a return to my passion for whole-person psychiatry and a commitment to providing transformative, integrative care. With tailored treatment plans, functional medicine, coaching, and therapy at the core of our practice, we embark on a new chapter, opening new vistas (Spanish for views) for women.

Where Next?

The children and I are heading to SouthEast Asia in March and will be there exploring for 4-6 months. I am currently in a Functional Medicine Psychiatry Fellowship and am completing an Advanced Women’s Health course. I am overjoyed with the new owners of my Ohio clinic and know they will really go to the stars with it.

I will continue growing my weight management business, finish my PMHNP coding and billing courses, and coaching other NPs how they can create a business and create THEIR LIVES as well. My family and I will also continue learning Spanish.

What Do I Recommend?

What type of practice you would like to design is completely up to you. I am not warning against starting an insurance practice. In fact, I still recommend it for most NPs, depending on your overall goals. I met my goal and am now setting new ones. Contact me today to get started.
