You’re Not Stuck Part 2: Small Steps Ahead by Way of Gratitude

Image: In a small village in the state of Yucatan, Mexico, a family of Maya people wanted to dress me up in their traditional garb and it was a most lovely time.

In our prior post, we encouraged you to consider your whys (and why nots!). We encouraged you to think about what you would like to change in your life and your career. However, it is incredibly important to acknowledge what we currently have. The holidays are the perfect time to sit back, reflect, and consider the non-material things that we have. My time spent traveling the world and seeing many cultures and people of countless backgrounds has led me to really be more self-aware. It has forced me to become more comfortable recognizing what I have.

Tonight I’ve been considering some of the following things that I have:

  1. Somewhere to sleep at night. ✔

  2. Food in my belly without extended time periods between meals ✔

  3. A steady source of income ✔

  4. My education and passion for lifelong learning ✔

  5. My health ✔

  6. Happy children ✔

  7. Healthy children ✔

  8. Lifelong friendships ✔

  9. The ability to make more friends ✔

  10. The ability to never stop exploring ✔✔✔

But wait. Does this mean that I think we should become complacent and just accept “things for what they are?” Of course not or I would not be writing this blog or helping other nurse practitioners change their lives! However, by starting each day through a lens of gratitude, I feel more empowered to take those steps, if even tiny ones, to continue what I’m doing.

Instead of collecting material items this holiday season, let’s consider the value of experiences and the joy that is in the life around us.

Consider reaching out to us for a 30 minute intro call to see if our services might be what you need as a gift to yourself this year.

What are you grateful for?

What’s one tiny step you can make today to get you where you’d like to be?
